Freepatternsarea.com offers a large collection of free design files in vector, template, CAD block, and 3D CNC laser cutting formats. Every design on the site is drawn by hand in 2D CAD software and exported to each file format directly from that source drawing, which keeps the geometry clean and the curves smooth. The files are free to download for personal use.

The site started from a simple gap: when we began, there were few well-drawn, dependable design files for the laser cutting and CNC community to work from or take inspiration from. That is still the goal. These designs are here both as ready-to-use files and as reference quality work for anyone developing their own projects across woodworking, crafting, and fabrication.

Different File Formats to Suit All Industries

To make the designs usable across different trades, the files are published in SVG, PNG, PDF, DXF, CDR, DWG, and STL formats. These open in the common vector, raster, CAD, and 3D applications used in each field, so you can download a design in the format your software reads and convert it further if you need to.

Preparing a design and sharing it takes us days, sometimes weeks. Please read the terms in the License Agreement section before using the files.

Free CNC Laser Cutting Project Files

The first of the site’s two main categories is Free CNC Laser Cutting Project Files. This category holds 3D projects for CO₂ lasers, diode lasers, and CNC routers, meant to give the laser cutting community working examples to build from and to inspire similar ideas. From these designs you can produce 3D products and models in wood, plywood, MDF, balsa, and cardboard.

The files in this category run on laser cutters and routers in formats such as DXF, SVG, CDR, and PDF. They open and edit in standard vector and CAD software, and you can convert them to whatever format your machine needs.

Free Vector, Template, and CAD Files

The second category is Free Vector, Template, and CAD Files. Here you will find 2D vector designs along with their graphic versions, outline templates, CAD drawings, and cutting files, in SVG, PNG, DXF, PDF, CDR, DWG, and STL formats.

The SVG files are scalable vectors that also cut on craft machines like Cricut, Silhouette Cameo, and Brother ScanNCut. The transparent PNG files are high-resolution black silhouette graphics. The PDF files hold printable outline templates. The DXF and DWG files are CAD drawings that work as 2D blocks or as cut and engrave files for routers, lasers, and plasma cutters. The CDR files hold editable line art for use in CorelDRAW, mostly for laser cutting. The STL files contain the 3D extruded version of a design for use in 3D CAD and modeling software.

Personal Use and Getting Started

All files are free for personal use. The work that goes into each design is the reason the License Agreement matters, so please review it before downloading, especially regarding commercial use.

To get started, browse either category, open a design page, and choose the format that matches your software or machine. Each design page lists the formats and details for that project, so you can download, open, and cut or print without preparation in between.
